Single-axis solar trackers follow the sun from sunrise to sunset as it moves in the sky through the day from east to west. They are called a single-axis trackers as the mechanism only rotates in one plane around a single axis. The axis can be oriented so that the cells stand up at a tilt (called a polar axis) or lie flat (called a horizontal axis). Horizontal axis' are more suitable for small latitudes , whilst polar axis are more suitable for larger latitudes.

Dual-axis, or two-axis, trackers follow the sun completely. The two axes of rotation allow the tracker to position the solar cells directly perpendicular to the sun's ray all the time. As they are able to adjust for the sun's height as well east to west rotation dual-axis trackers fully adjust for seasons as well as adjusting to face the sun as it sits low in the horizon at sunrise and sunset, and high in the sky in the middle of the day.

Test	Details
Static load	Static push and pull tests of basic actuators with 300, 800 and 1000 mm strokes.
Dynamic load	Dynamic push/pull tests of the actuator.
Self-locking	Self locking tests at dynamic and static load.
Lifetime	Lifetime tests performed at combined loads in push and pull situations.
Climate test A	Actuators are tested with 12000N load, at temperatures of plus 5 °C and plus 40°C.
Climate test B	Actuators are tested with 12,000N load, at temperatures of minus 40 °C and plus 70°C.
Current and Speed	Actuators with loads of 0N, 8,000N and 12,000N are tested at minus 40°C, plus 30°C and 70°C.
IP X6 static	Actuators are tested for water ingress according to IP X6, without movement.
IP 6X	Actuators are tested for dust sealing properties according to IP 6X.
Salt spray test	Actuators are tested for corrosion resistance at 500 hours salt spray test.
UVI test	Actuators housing and cable are tested for UVI resistance ability.
